The dead have reached 1,500 in Turkey and Syria, from the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the early hours.
The earthquake was felt as far as Egypt and Iraq and was centered in Kahramanmaras province. A new 7.7-magnitude earthquake followed in roughly the same area
As Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated today, 921 people have lost their lives in Turkey, at least 5,385 have been injured, while 2,470 people have been pulled from the ruins alive. According to him, 2,818 buildings have collapsed.
Erdogan added that he could not predict how much more the death toll would rise as search and rescue operations continued.
About 9,000 people are involved in the operations, while 45 countries have so far offered aid to Turkey, he noted, speaking of the biggest disaster to hit the country since 1939.
At least 592 dead in Syria
Meanwhile, at least 592 people have died in the earthquake in Syria, according to the Syrian Ministry of Health and rescuers in rebel-held areas.
According to the data of the Syrian Ministry of Health, which was reported by the SANA agency, 371 people have been killed in the areas under the control of Damascus and another 1,089 have been injured.
At the same time, the White Helmets, the rescuers active in the areas of northern Syria, which are controlled by the rebels, have recorded at least 221 dead and 419 wounded.
