Novak Djokovic produced a historic victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Australian Open final on Sunday, claiming his 10th title in Melbourne and equaling Rafael Nadal’s record of 22 Grand Slam titles.
An emotional Novak Djokovic has spoken of the biggest win of his career, saying his team and his family are well aware of how much he has been through in the last 3-4 weeks on his return to Australia after his deportation last year.
“This was one of the toughest tournaments I’ve played in my life, given what happened last year. I want to thank the people for making me feel good and welcome in Australia again. There’s a reason I’m playing my best tennis in this pitch and in front of Rod Laver, thank you so much for being here sir! I try to take these moments and live in them. It’s a big speech I know but I have to say this because only the family “Me and my team know what I’ve been through the last 3-4 weeks. By all accounts, this was the biggest win of my career,” Djokovic said in yet another very emotional moment tonight at Rod Laver Arena.
Shortly before, Djokovic had thanked his team separately and told them that this title is both his and theirs, while closing his speech he thanked the organization and everyone who helped to make it happen.
