UK Announces It Will Send Tanks To Ukraine

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has expressed Britain’s desire to send British Army Challenge 2 tanks to Ukraine,

London is “sending the right message”, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, welcoming today, Saturday (14/1) Britain’s decision to provide heavy tanks to his country.

“During a conversation with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, I thanked him for taking decisions that not only strengthen us on the battlefield, but also send the right message to our partners,” Zelensky wrote on Twitter.

The dispatch of British Challengers 2 tanks to Ukraine, announced by London, will only “intensify” the fighting and is unlikely to reverse the situation on the front, the Russian embassy in London said.

“The dispatch of tanks will in no way hasten the end of military hostilities, but will only intensify them, causing further casualties,” the embassy said in a statement, adding that it was “unlikely” that these tanks combat units will help the Ukrainian army to “turn the tide on the battlefield”.

Yesterday, Kiev once more urged its Western allies to provide it more weapons and high-performance military equipment, including heavy tanks and long-range missiles, to oppose the Russian military.

Mykhailo Podoliak , an adviser to the Ukrainian president, mentioned that if the West provide more weapons, including missiles with a range of more than 100 kilometers, Ukraine would be able to win the war by 2023.
